FUNCTION
The fire extinguishing system R-102 for kitchens protects more restaurants from fire than any other system. The R-102 extinguisher system has a flexible design and employs an extremely effective extinguishing agent ANSULEX which has a low pH and is kept liquid. ANSULEX rapidly reduces flames and cools hot surfaces while creating a blanket-like envelope that helps prevent re-ignition.
Ansulex R102 is a mechanical system allowing both manual and automatic activation. This is a requirement according to NFPA17A.
Manual activation is via a pull handle that is placed in an appropriate location in the kitchen. Usually on the wall at the nearest emergency exit. In the event of an incident, a staff member pulls the handle and the system is activated immediately.
Automatic activation is via mechanical fusible links. These are normally placed in the filter housing during the exhaust air connection. When the fusible link is exposed to high temperatures, it melts and the system is activated. An appropriate activation temperature depends on the type of kitchen being protected. Fusible links can be selected between 138-260 degrees.
The extinguisher liquid ANSULEX effectively extinguishes oil fires while cooling hot surfaces in the fire zone. The liquid is a potassium-based salt solution that is harmless to personnel and easy to decontaminate after activation. Ansulex has the lowest pH value on the market and is therefore gentle on stainless steel fittings in the kitchen.
